Bella Groove is a band led by Elise Walsh – vocalist, flautist and composer.

“A jazz singer and flautist with warmth and depth” (Beat Mag), Elise commands a broad repertoire of Jazz standards and originals, including some Blues, Soul, Bossa and Pop thrown into the mix!

As a performer

Elise has been a performer since the age of 10, with initial training at the Young People’s Theatre, Newcastle.

Elise was formally trained on the flute from the age of 11. She studied classical flute at the Newcastle Conservatorium and studied vocal and instrumental jazz with the Sydney Jazz Action Society, Bud Shank Jazz Workshops and pioneer free jazz vocalist, Jay Clayton (West Coast, USA) as well as the Sydney Conservatorium.

In her adult career, Elise has performed at various venues and private functions in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra including Port Townshend (USA). Elise is now living in Canberra.

Influences

With an eclectic appreciation of many styles of music, Elise’s repertoire consists of original music influenced by some of the Jazz greats, including some legendary contemporary Jazz groups and artists such as Snarky Puppy, Afla Mist, Gretchen Parlato and Kurt Elling.

Elise also loves interpreting the Jazz classics, pop, R&B and Soul. You will hear tunes originally performed by Herbie Mann, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Nancy Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald, Bill Withers, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Stevie Wonder and more!

As a writer

As a creative person, Elise also finds an outlet in writing. Whether it’s lyrics to a song, flowing prose, or a play for stage and screen it’s an expression of her life experiences.
